On a Saturday at 4 o´ clock in the morning, a time when normal people are still sleeping, our national rowing team started our trip to Oxford. At 6:45 our plane started, half an hour later we arrived in London Stansted. There the Oxford rowing team was already waiting for us and we drove to London to their rowing club. In the clubhouse we had breakfast. After that we had to wait for an hour because we were only allowed to get on the water when the tide was at its lowest. Meanwhile we walked around a little bit, viewing the spot and enjoying the sun (at 10 o´ clock we had 18° C).

Finally we were able to start our training. Before that, the Oxford coach gave me instructions how I had to cox on the river because it is very complicated with the tides and the currents. After the training we had a meal in the clubhouse and then our second training. In the evening we drove to Oxford. On the way we burst a tire and had to wait for the breakdown service. When we finally arrived at Oxford, we only had half an hour time to get ready for the forthcoming evening.

We also ate in the big hall, where they had dinner in the film. The meal was delicious, it was a four-course meal from a five-stars cook from England. The next morning we got up at 8 o´ clock and had a short guided tour through Oxford. It is such a beautiful town and in every new street we went, I could have taken thousands of new photos, I felt like a little Chinese that photographs everything. After an hour we drove again into London City where we had breakfast. After that we went rowing. During lunch hour we were all looking forward to the race.

The press and the TV people were also there, they filmed us and we had to give a little interview. Finally the race started. I was not allowed to cox my eights in the race, because it was an international race and then a boy must cox them. Together with my coach I accompanied them in a motorboat next to the race. We only lost by a few seconds but the race was really exciting. In the clubhouse the press and TV people waited for us and again we had to give an interview. Unfortunately then we already had to pack our things to go to the airport.

The weekend there was so great and in our opinion it doesn’t matter that we lost the race. We were able to gain a great experience not everyone can get. (Inga aus der GY0G)
